SCVNGR Surpasses 1 Million Users
Once the upstart underdog in the location-based checkin arena, SCVNGR is announcing that it has surpassed 1 million users Tuesday and is making a strong case for itself as a top contender in the space. SCVNGR’s 1 million user milestone news follows a few startup-defining moments, most notably $15 million in Series C funding and a Sprint partnership that guarantees its Android app placement on LG Optimus V handset homescreens.

What Makes SCVNGR So Sticky (Hot Sauce Not Included)
Location is still an acquired taste for a lot of consumers, many of whom have yet to check in anywhere. But the power of location and its ability to bridge the online and the offline worlds is increasingly being realized by savvy start-ups like SCVNGR, which has found success building a game layer over the world.

Phone App Turns Tourism Into Virtual Scavenger Hunt
Going nowhere fast in rush-hour traffic downtown, quickly losing hope that I’d reach yoga class on time, I was reminded by my iPhone that there was a little patch of peacefulness nearby. I pulled off the main road and soon was sitting in a garden by a riverfront pagoda, a place I’d visited occasionally but hadn’t thought about recently, until I started playing SCVNGR.

Location-Based Game SCVNGR Launches Revamped Mobile Apps
SCVNGR, a location based game that competes with the likes of Foursquare and Gowalla, has gotten plenty of attention for offering a deeper gaming experience than most of its competitiors — instead of just ‘checking in’, the game prompts users to complete various challenges, which can involve things like taking goofy photos or solving a puzzle. One thing SCVNGR hasn’t been so good at, though, is connecting with your friends (which is where Foursquare excels).

SCVNGR Set to Surpass 500,000 Users on Tuesday
SCVNGR CEO and founder Seth Priebatsch tells Mashable that the location-based app that competes with the likes of Foursquare and Gowalla is set to hit 500,000 users Tuesday.

About SCVNGR

Profile: SCVNGR is a location-based gaming and networking application that awards points to users for completing specific actions in specific locations. It encourages deeper engagements with locations by prompting consumers to not just check-in but to take part in location-specific challenges. SCVNGR is attempting to position itself as the middle ground between the purely social check-in of Foursquare and the game-oriented MyTown. The result is an application that delivers the interactive gaming elements of MyTown through the quick and casual functionality of Foursquare.

Promotional Mechanisms: SCVNGR allows businesses to create custom location-specific challenges designed to incentivize customer behavior. For example, Nike might offer a discount to consumers who visit a particular Niketown location and post photos of themselves trying on a new line of basketball shoes. Businesses can also build broader “treks” that link together designated locations and challenges.
